Round One Data Released: We Share What We're Learning
In 30 days, we received more than 1000 stories about Adelaide from a diverse group people - men and women, young and old - sharing what makes their favourite place in Adelaide so unique.
But before we delve deeply into the themes emerging from these stories, let’s take a look at what we know about our storytellers.
Our youngest contributor was a 5 year old boy from Gilles Street Primary School and the eldest, a 97 year old North Adelaide man.
The greatest number of story submissions came from the 25 to 34 age group, making up 23 per cent of the total number of submissions, closely followed by the 35 to 44 age group, comprising 18 per cent of storytellers.
The infographic below gives you an idea of the broad age range of story contributors.
It was important for us to understand how our storytellers use the city. We found more than half all story contributors told us that they use the city to shop, play and work.
We also wanted to know what places were sacred to people. By looking at the Top 10 Most Mentioned Places we discovered the Central Market continues to capture the hearts of Adelaideans.
The Botanic Gardens, Rundle Mall and River Torrens also ranked highly, each receiving more than 90 mentions in your 1000+ stories.
The Adelaide Zoo was mentioned 25 times, bumping Hindley Street out of the Top 10 Most Mentioned Places by just one response.
Finally, we looked at the things people most often say they like about their favourite place. People cited references to the great variety of things to do in Adelaide, the beautiful views and the city buzz, as well as the opportunities to be at one with nature and interact with family and friends.
Stay with us as we delve deeper into the data to look at the common themes and sentiments that emerged from your stories.
We'll be sure to post the second round of data on the blog.
